If the city came into existence in 1907, it gets a virtual avatar when it turns 100, in August. Jamshedpur is all set to set its first-ever community-based portal named www.tatanagar.com in August. Developed by Sparx Technologies, a Jamshedpur-based software firm with inputs from Jamshedpur residents all over the globe, the website would be a one-stop-shop for the steel city. “A century back we got our city, so we thought of presenting everybody a virtual Jamshedpur during its centenary,” said Jaspal Singh, chief of operations, Sparx Technologies.A team of experts from the company has been working for the past four months to make the portal a complete online version of the steel city. “The domain was started in 2000, but all these years we only had mail services. Gradually, enquiries started pouring in from members who wanted more. So we decided to go online and launch this unique portal,” added Singh. The icing on the cake came when the company tied up with Google recently which enabled users with 2GB mail service with a chat service, 100MB extra space to store documents and another 100MB space to create their own web page. Today, the portal today has over 15,000 members from all across the world. Services include online retail, e-markets and a web directory on Jamshedpur. Important sections include yellow pages, web mail, a discussion forum, links with Indian Railways portal, news and entertainment. |
